We decorated our Christmas tree in the Church on 12th December. But who was our Christmas angel? (see foot of page for the answer!)

The Volunteer Centre Dorset held an Awards Evening on Thursday 29th October in Dorchester. Our volunteers had been nominated under the category “Volunteer Group of the Year”:
"Broadwindsor Community Stores is manned by a team of more than 50 volunteers, nearly all of whom have little or no retail experience. They range in age from 14 to beyond 70 but all have one thing in common – a passionate belief in the absolute value of our little shop. They have all had to learn new skills and give their time willingly helping to keep the shop open 7 days a week. They are the life blood of the shop, which in the 30 months since we opened, has become an integral hub of this rural community. Without these amazing volunteers, Broadwindsor would be without this vital social asset."

The event was attended by Fraser Hughes (BADCE Chair), Mandy Crane (BADCE Volunteers’ Co-ordinator), and David Glossop. They were delighted to come away with this certificate in recognition of our volunteers’ “outstanding contribution”!

We were delighted to be visited by Sue Williams, our previous Shop Manager, on Saturday 11th July. Sue was over here for a couple of weeks before heading back to Laos. She told us she's completed her unpaid contract and has been given a paid one, for six months, as a Field Supervisor, helping to train volunteers. Everyday living is cheap, with a bottle of beer £1.20p, cigarettes 40p per packet, and a good meal out costs £1.50!
Sue is finding it very rewarding and is happy doing what she is doing

March: Once again our generous customers have enabled us to make a donation, this time to the Parkinsons Society (Bridport).

The Stores celebrated its second anniversary on Saturday 7th March - with a Maydown Farm BBQ on the forecourt, a quiz, and a raffle to win a meal at Winyards Gap. And we unveiled our new 'bake off' oven - offering delicious pain au chocolat, croissants, French batons & hot savoury pastries!
